A high glucose result means there is more sugar circulating in your blood than your body is keeping in its normal range, a state called hyperglycemia (Cleveland Clinic). Here is the clinical nuance that gets missed constantly. The single biggest cause of a falsely high fasting glucose is a non-fasting sample. The lab cannot tell the difference. It just reports what was in the tube.
