When is the upgrade worth it?

(An aside on how I would actually split a two week India trip: Trident for the arrival night and the business or transit cities, then three or four consecutive nights at one Oberoi resort with nothing scheduled. Spreading the same budget thinly across six luxury nights produces a worse trip than concentrating it into three.)

Both brands run under the same operator, so the service culture, food safety standards and staff training sit on the same foundation. That is genuinely useful information for a traveler, because it means the downside risk of choosing the cheaper tier is small. You are trading spectacle, not reliability.
